Making My Blogger Account DoFollow

By default search engines will not follow the links contained in blogger / blogspot account comments. The concept is called NoFollow and came about as a result of comment spammers who were trying to increase the number of backlinks to their sites. I recently discovered that a number of bloggers have decided to make their blogs DoFollow blogs through the use of a wordpress plugin known as DoFollow

This can also be done to your Blogger / Blogspot account by following these simple steps:
1) Go to your Account Dashboard and click Manage: Layout
2) Click Edit HTML
3) Click the checkbox labeled "Expand Widget Templates"
4) Hit Ctrl-F and search for: rel='nofollow'
The first result will be the line:

a expr:href='data:comment.authorUrl' rel='nofollow'

Simply delete the rel='nofollow' portion so that the line now looks like:

a expr:href='data:comment.authorUrl'

This will turn on search engine following of the links in an author's name which is determined by the website specified when a user makes a comment.

5) Search for the next occurance of rel='nofollow' and the result will be:

a expr:href='data:backlink.url' rel='nofollow'

Again, simply delete the portion that specifies nofollow so that the line now appears like:

a expr:href='data:backlink.url'

This enables search engine following of all back links to your post. Give and receive my friends!

Once you have completed this save your changes and congratulations your Blogger / Blogspot account is now DoFollow!

Are Google's Adwords or Microsoft's Adcenter worth it?

I recently signed up for a new hosting account with Hosted4.us included with my plan was $100 worth of credits for both Google's adwords and Microsoft's adCenter. Since it was a free credit I decided to check both of the programs out. I was rather surprised at how expensive adCenter keywords in comparison to Google's which was only compounded by the fact that Microsoft's search engines produce a significantly smaller search volume. I'm about three days into my campaign and I've seen little results from adCenter leaving me to question is it even worth it? What are your thoughts? What has your experience been? Let me know.

Intel unveiled an experimental 80 core CPU that requires the same amount of power as a core 2. The 80-core CPU can conduct a trillion mathematical calculations a second. Can you imagine being able to harness that kind of power on a home PC. The possibilities are both amazing and almost horrifying.

Search Engine Secrets - Faster Page Indexing w/ RSS

I came clean today and wrote an article detailing my latest page indexing trick.

What generally happens to bloggers and content developers is that they post their latest material and it takes days before the search engines find out about it and index their pages.

The other problem is with new sites. It can take days, weeks, or even months for search engines to find a site and even longer for them to look beyond the first page or so.

Using RSS feeds to automatically submit your latest content to search engines cuts out a lot of these hassles. After following these steps myself I immediately saw an exponential increase in traffic to my sites and articles.

You would never think that windows is secretly recording everything you do on your PC, but it is. Windows is actually hiding information about the sites that you visit, the programs you use, emails that you read, and documents that you open. Switching to Firefox, IE vulnerable for 284 days in 2006

After reading a recent article stating that Internet Explorer was vulnerable to unpatched security vulnerabilities for a total of 284 days in 2006, I decided it was time to write an article about it. At this point it is my personal opinion that Using IE over Firefox is the cyber equivalent to running naked through thorn bushes towards the edge of a cliff that you can't see.

Introducing Myself

Hi, my Name is Mike or "Mikey" and this is my first public blog.

I am currently writing and developing content for a new site that aims to provide informative articles that will help less experienced Internet users make the most out of their experience. It is my goal to produce content that will help these users over come the initial learning curve and quickly gain the confidence and knowledge required to navigate this crazy world that we call the Internet efficiently and safely.

We came up with the idea of calling the site "The Beginning of the Internet" as a tounge in cheek way of saying that everyone needs to start somewhere, here's a good place to find the information that you'll need. Of course this site isn't where the Internet ACTUALLY begins, to our knowledge there is no such place, but we hope to make it a good place to start off from.
